Sipo/Utile Speargun oil finish?

Postby The.jonn » October 27th, 2020, 8:33 am

First build here, has anyone had experience making a laminated Sipo speargun, more specifically would Sipo hold up with an oil finish?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have a few Sipo Utile guns and they are very nice with an Oil finish. But you need to do a good job with the oil. Not just a Rub it in once kind of thing. Start off Flood coating with a foam brush and then wetsanding with 320 in circular motions. Then before the Oil starts to get too sticky, rub it all off with a Dry cotton rag clean. Let the gun hang for a day. Next day flood coat wait @ 10 mins and before the oil gets sticky, wipe clean with a clean dry cotton rag. Let hang for 12 hours. Repeat. Let hang for 24 hours. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Eventually you'll build up a nice finish.
