Hello from Fort Lauderdale

Hi fellow spearos,
Im new here to the forum, I grew up watching my dad and his friends spear and dive the coast of South Africa where I grew up. I spearfished quite a bit as a kid then stopped for a while and started again 6 years ago and I’m fully hooked.
I do mostly shore dives here from the beaches with occasional trips to the bahamas.
Looking forward to meeting some of you for a spear one day!

Hello and welcome. We have a couple of divers from the worse coast on this forum as well. Looking forward to your reports and stories. I'd love to hear your experiences diving South Africa as a kid. Probably got bored of fending off sharks?

You would think so, but I only dove kelp beds and gullies with my dad when I was a kid. I haven’t lived there for a long time. To be completely honest, I’m too scared to dive the murky cold waters of the Western Cape

You sound like a smart Right Coast guy. We dive warm clear water because... duh. One day Dam will learn but until then he can fend off white sharks in 5' vis wearing a 7mm.

I've been on the Best Coast for 15+ years now, but I grew up giving the bugs and reef fish hell in Broward County. My old man still gets it done week in and week out weather permitting.

Keep your head on a swivel out there. Boaters in South Florida have always scared the bejesus out of me in a way that sharks - here or there - never have.
