How to post pictures

Postby admin » June 30th, 2013, 9:41 am

Posting pictures is a critical step to acquiring fame and cool status. You're a nobody if people can't see your humongous catches. When you create a thread, there are two methods for posting pictures.

Method 1: Upload attachment

1. Start a new topic, or reply to an existing one.
2. Click "Upload attachment"
3. A new window will popup.

4. Navigate to where your photos are stored.
5. Click on the photo to select it
To select multiple photos
hold Ctrl + Click on those photos (for windows)
OR hold Cmd + Click (for Mac)
OR click and drag your mouse over multiple photos
6. Click Open (or Choose for mac)

7. Click Submit when you are done writing your awesome report.

Note: Multiple photo selection doesn't work on mobile. But you can still upload multiple photos.
1. Follow steps 1-5 above.
2. When you get to the selection step, tab on the photo you want, then click the "Add the file(s)" button.
3. Wait for it to finish uploading.
4. Tap "Choose Files" button again, and select the next photo.
5. When you are done with all the photos click on "Submit"

Method 2: Embed pictures from an existing online source (your web albums like photobucket, flickr, etc*)

1. Create a new thread or hit "reply" to answer another a thread. If you are answering a thread then after "reply" click on "upload attachment".
2. Copy the URL of the picture you want to post by right clicking on the image and choose "Copy image URL".
3. Click the "Img" button above.
4. Paste the URL in between the IMG tags. For example:
Code: Select all
[img]www.example.com/awesomepicture.jpg[/img]

5. Click the Preview button to see if you have successfully embedded your image. If your image URL is correct, it will show up as an image. If it doesn't, your image URL may be wrong. Check again to see if it follows this standard format: http://www.example.com/picturename.jpg.

* How to upload your pictures online
In order to post pictures using the second method, your pictures need to be hosted online somewhere. Those of you with photobucket, flickr similar web albums already know how to upload. You only need to copy the URL to the image, then embed it between the IMG tags.
For those who don't have a web album, there are many free and easy to use web hosts out there. A simple one that can handle large traffic is http://www.imgur.com.

1. Go to http://www.imgur.com
2. Under "Upload Images", click "Computer"
3. Navigate to the directory on your computer that contains the pictures
4. Select the picture, then click "Open"
5. Click "Start Upload"
6. Once your upload is complete, on the left of your picture, you'll see the BBCode for message boards and forums. It'll look similar to this:
Code: Select all
[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/XXsIlsk.jpg[/IMG]

7. Copy this BBCode and continue with step 4-5 from Method 2.

So the only way to post a photo is to start a new thread? What if someone asks how to set up a breakaway? It appears that we can't reply with photos.

I think more than half my posting of photos is on threads created by other people.

Bill, try it again. Do you see the "Upload attachment" button now?

Edit: The reason you and everyone else didn't see the upload button, is because the board defaults new users into a "Newly Registered Users" group. This group doesn't allow file upload until a post limit has been reached (10 posts). This discourages newbies from spamming the board. But, seeing how everyone in this "first wave" is mostly decent people, we're gonna disable this feature until the second wave. Post away everyone!

Edit 2: The board is now able to resize larger images to a set width and heigh (1600x1200, if you're uploading pictures larger than this, it'll automatically resize without your doing). You're still highly encourage to resize your own pictures before posting though (better yet, follow the second method on how to post pictures). There are two reasons for this. There IS a server-imposed size limit that I don't want to change. And the second reason is, we're still a small board operating on limited space. Larger pictures will eat up at lot of resources and eventually, money, that pays for extra space and bandwidth. If you use second method mention in the first post to embed pictures, it transfer the role of serving up images to the external hosts (flickr, imgur, picasaweb, etc).

Chris, Dam, how do you post a link or embed a youtube video? I tried doing it on my thread but it wouldn't work.

Gil on my toolbar I see URL and youtube buttons, let me try to embed a video and link:
Per Dam's instructions:

Yes you can embed via youtube, you just have to copy the ending part of the video link, read here:

Since there are many ways to share a youtube link, it's hard to use just one set of BBCode that would handle all cases. I think the simplest way is to copy the youtube video ID and paste it inside [youtube][/youtube] tags

Example:

If you want to embed this video:
Code: Select all
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTB9u2AuzCA

Copy everything after the ?v=

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTB9u2AuzCA

This is your video ID. In this case, it is QTB9u2AuzCA

When you're making a post, click on the youtube tag then paste the video ID inside these tags. You will have this:

Code: Select all
[youtube]QTB9u2AuzCA[/youtube]

And this is the result:

Here's how you get an avatar:

1. Click on User Control Panel at the top left
2. Mouse over Overview and select Profile
3. Mouse over Edit profile and select Edit Avatar
4. From here, you can upload a picture from your computer (you should probably resize it ahead of time).
Or, click Display Gallery and choose from many awesome pictures!
5. Click Submit and you'll be part of the kooky kids klub.
