ghetto garage gun rack

move this if you feel it belongs elsewhere mods

Finally got a day off and of course it's whitewash out to a half mile off the beach. Thought I'd take care of a little project that made itself available to me this week. Keep in mind my tool box is about the size of my cell phone and my skills match :) Like my guns, I don't look for pretty varnished things, I look for functional and useful. Cheap also helps, but not with my guns which is why having thousands of dollars just stuck in the corner has been bugging me for a few years now.

here's what it looked like. Keep in mind my garage is just slightly bigger than my cell phone and I was looking for a small capacity solution.

I would have just put them on my garage door but my autographed Justin Beiber photo the Neptunes got me on my birthday took the place of honor :D Actually my garage door is a POS and has about a foot gap in the top and it rains right through onto where my guns would be. Not surprisingly, the rain doesn't touch Beiber and it seems like he's got a force field of sunshine on him at all times

the guns

the solution that presented itself this week at work

I borrowed a jigsaw from my awesome neighbor and got to work

only took about a 1/2 hour and I was almost there

A run to West Marine for some bungee

BAM. For less than $10 and an hour or so of work I've got a perfectly functional gun rack and most importantly, Beiber looks on with approval. I feel like we had a little moment together when I put it in place. :gay: :bowrofl:

I've got access to a few more of these things if anybody else is interested. I'd be happy to bring them home and pass them on.

Wow that's awesome. Way to think outside of the box! You should throw it on a lazy Susan so it'll spin for you. The only thing left to do is fill in the empty racks with more guns :)

That's way cool John, you should paint that spool or put some finish on it. Now that I know where you keep them and that the garage door doesn't close I'll be by sometime at night to do some shopping ;).

Seeing the spool/storage rack complete it looks so obvious. The genius is seeing the spools potential.

Paint-shmaint. A few spearing/fishing/surfing stickers will do the job.

hahahahaha! I have a shirt that says that and the locals around here hate it.

I'll hook a few up from work MJ and bring them home. Starting Monday I begin a 3 week straight run so you may just have to bomb by the house and grab it out of the backyard. If it wasn't for that, I'd bring you one up and let you take me to all your secret spotz :naughty: If you can wait till March 20 I'm going to take a month off and we can make the exchange then ( my trash for your secret spotz :) )

I like the idea for the shaft holes as well. May have to steal that!

John, you are ghetto genius. That might also work on a boat. Hate throwing guns in a trash can or deck and getting trashed.

bravo John... that's a great idea!
for wetsuits and other gear I've found these to be a great addition to the garage...

found one on craigslist for $50 if I remember correctly. works great for wetsuits, floats and so much more. put a plastic tub underneath to catch the drips and good to go.

that's not a bad little gig Ryne, thanks. Fortunately for me my cement foundation is cracked under my 100 year old structure (my garage  ). I was able to just build a coat rack for all my suits, floats, lines etc.... I've got a hot water shower in my backyard so upon returning from diving (lots of times still in my suit) I just wash everything off outside and hang it in the garage. The cement is cracked at the perfect angle so all the water runs right outside :eusa-clap:

sometimes the ghetto has it's benefits. LOL

Lazy Susan is a GREAT idea. Did a quick search on Amazon and found some. For $10-$20 you can take your ghetto rack to the next level. Have been contemplating building my own recently but after seeing this and the one Oak did, I'm leaning towards this style with the lazy Susan. Great ideas!!!
